CBD or Cannabidiol is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis or hemp plant. It is a non-addictive, non-intoxicating chemical which is believed to have many therapeutic and medicinal properties and benefits.
Though it is a compound derived from cannabis, CBD is completely legal in all 50 US states. This is due to a 2018 Farm Bill passed by congress which made legal and regulated the growth and production of industrial hemp.
Many studies have been conducted to determine not just the therapeutic benefits of CBD but also the safety of the compound. Very minimal side effects have been found to exist with CBD, most of them minor.
CBD can be used in a variety of ways including in food or drink, on the skin with creams and patches and can even be used in smoking and vaping products.
CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis and is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.”
